Micko to sit out rest of season
Legendary manager Mick O'Dwyer has confirmed he will miss Wicklow's upcoming Tommy Murphy Cup campaign after undergoing a recent minor heart procedure.
Selectors Gerry Farrell, Kevin O'Brien and Philip McGillicuddy will take charge of the Garden county team for their Tommy Murphy Cup clash with Offaly in Aughrim on Saturday week.
O'Dwyer, who managed Kerry to eight All-Ireland titles, had to have a stent inserted after undergoing a medical check-up at Cork University Hospital last week.
Admitting since that he's "never felt better", O'Dwyer said: "I've been told to take it easy for a few weeks. I needed to have a little job done on an artery and it went fine.
"I feel as fit as a fiddle again but I won't be involved with Wicklow for the Tommy Murphy Cup."
Rubbishing rumours that his health may force him to quit as Wicklow boss, the 71-year-old is excited by the prospect of continuing the role he took up last October.
"We started something there and it has to be continued. We all saw what Wicklow were capable of in the championship games against Louth which augurs well for the future," he told the Irish Independent.
"There's a long way to go but they'll get there."
While O'Dwyer will have plenty to keep him occupied in his native Kerry before he returns to the Wicklow hotseat, he is currently working away on his much-anticipated autobiography which will be published by Blackwater Press in October.
