Cork dominate against Limerick

Cork 2-14 Limerick 0-07

Cork chalked up their second championship win over Limerick in less than a year today to progress through to the Munster SFC semi-finals.

Billy Morgan's Rebels did enough to warrant the win - the county's 21st in 24 championship clashes with Limerick - with a sixth-minute goal from James Masters getting them a comfortable early lead.

Cork were 0-2 to 0-0 to no score in front when surges from Noel O'Leary and Derek Kavanagh helped play Masters in for a fine goal finish from close range.

Masters soon added a point, taking his personal tally to 1-3, but Limerick then came alive with Michael Reidy and John Cooke amongst their points scorers.

The Shannonsiders managed to cut the gap to 1-3 to 0-5 before Masters pointed in injury-time and Cork's second goal followed just before the half-time whistle.

Wing back Noel O'Leary fisted to the net after his initial shot had been saved by John Kiely to put the defending Munster champions 2-4 to 0-5 in front.

Limerick never recovered from that blow - they only added two frees from Reidy to their tally after the resumption.

It was effectively target practice for Cork in the remaining 35 minutes as Masters led the way, ending the day with a personal haul of 1-7.

Cork will return to championship fray in two weeks' time when they face Tipperary in the Munster semi-finals.
