London successful with fixture appeal

The London GAA County Board has been successful with its appeal against the GAA's decision to re-fix the Exiles' National Football League clash with Leitrim for a neutral venue.

The original fixture, due to be played on February 25, was called off due to an unplayable pitch at London's Ruislip ground.

The decision to postpone the Division 2A game just hours before the throw-in understandably angered the Leitrim squad and officials who made the trip across the Irish Sea, not least because of the cost involved.

The GAA had re-fixed the game for Newbridge this Sunday, a decision that upset Roscommon officials, who felt their Connacht rivals Leitrim would have an unfair advantage in playing London on Irish soil.

The decision to play the game in Newbridge was made, according to GAA PRO Danny Lynch, as "the pitch in Ruislip has been badly affected by flooding and bad weather recently and there is no alternative pitch in the London area".

Now, after London's successful appeal, the game is up in the air once again with a date and venue for the re-fixture yet to be confirmed.
