Blackhall Gaels clubman Anthony Moyles has been confirmed as the new Meath senior football captain for 2007.

Moyles replaces Nigel Crawford as the Royals skipper. The 30-year-old led Blackhall to a Division Two league title in October and has impressed Meath boss Colm Coyle with his leadership qualities.

A talented wing back or midfielder, Moyles is one of a number of players missing for Meath's NFL Division 2B opener at home to Cavan this Saturday (Páirc Tailteann, throw-in 7.30pm).

Crawford, Kevin Reilly, Daithi Rehan and Moyles are all currently nursing injuries, while Graham Geraghty and Stephen Bray are both serving suspensions.

Meanwhile, the Meath County Board have confirmed that Coyle's footballers will be taking a six-day training break in the sunny Algarve before the start of the Leinster championship in May.

The Royals, who clash with Kildare on May 20, will depart for Portugal on May 7. Coyle's panel of 30 players and his backroom team will travel.
