McGuckin to captain Derry
Kevin McGuckin has been chosen to captain the Derry senior footballers in 2007.
The Ballinderry defender, who has become a mainstay in the county side, will be Derry's fifth skipper in the space of six years.
He takes over from Johnny McBride who confirmed his retirement from inter-county football in November.
McGuckin said: "I'm delighted to have been named captain. Obviously it's a real honour and I'll be looking to lead Derry to some sort of success this season."
The talented corner back will be hopeful that the Oak Leafers can get their Gaelic Life Dr. McKenna Cup campaign back on track on Sunday against the title holders Tyrone.
Derry lost 0-17 to 0-12 against Cavan last weekend and are already playing catch-up in Section B.
Derry boss Paddy Crozier should have some of his big names back for the Omagh clash.
Eoin Bradley and Kevin McCloy are recovering from the 'flu, while Fergal Doherty, who impressed as a substitute last Sunday, looks set to start in midfield alongside Joe Diver.
Crozier, who guided his side to a notable championship win over Tyrone last summer, warned: "What happened when we met Tyrone in the championship last year is now history, however.
"It's a whole new ball game on Sunday and we have to be up for it. Obviously we will be looking carefully at our selection options and taking it from there. Tyrone got a win last weekend, now we need one."
