Aussie player accused of assault returns
The Australian International Rules player accused of assaulting a bar man in Galway last month is back in the country.
Brendan Fevola was ordered to return home after the incident, which was captured on CCTV.
It is believed that he spent the past week abroad but has now returned to Galway to meet with the Gardaí.
The incident happened after the first test of this year’s International Rules series at a hotel in Galway.
It is alleged that Fevola, who plays for the Carlton Blues in Melbourne, assaulted a staff member.
He was interviewed by Gardaí and a full AFL investigation was launched.
The Australian team's disciplinary council met and ruled that Fevola was guilty of ‘unacceptable behaviour’. He was then sent home.
However, it emerged today that Fevola returned to Ireland to answer questions about the incident.
Gardaí have confirmed that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
