Kilkenny out of Tommy Marren Cup
Antrim 1-24 Kilkenny 1-8
Kilkenny’s footballers bowed out of the Tommy Murphy Cup at the first hurdle but they were far from outclassed at Casement Park.
Dick Mullins’ side ran out of steam eventually but took an early 1-2 to 0-2 lead when corner-forward David Herity won and converted a penalty.
But Antrim gradually took control and a Ciarán McGourty goal had them 1-7 to 1-2 in front.
The Saffrons were well on top in the second half with Karl Stewart chasing his tally up to 0-9, while McCourty picked off 1-5. Roscommon or Cavan await them in the quarter-finals.
