Shock on cards as Galway trail Roscommon
A shock is on the cards at Hyde Park as reigning champions Galway trail Roscommon by 0-01 to 0-06 at half-time in this afternoon's Connacht SFC semi-final.
The Rossies new skipper Karol Mannion has scored 0-03 (2f) including a skyscraper of a point from 40 yards out. Galway, who hit five wides in the opening half hour, had to wait until first half injury-time until opening their account.
Padraic Joyce clipped over a free from the right wing. Joyce also had the ball in the Roscommon net moments earlier, but his effort was ruled out by referee Maurice Deegan as he was too close to goalkeeper Geoffrey Clancy when he blocked down the championship debutant's free out.
At Cusack Park, Denis Glennon has scored five points - two frees - to help Westmeath go in at the break with a 0-06 to 0-05 lead against London in their qualifier meeting.
Mayo native Barry Solan (0-04 (4f)) has kept the Exiles in touch.
Meanwhile, an eighth-minute goal from Michael Doherty has Donegal in front at the interval of today's Ulster SFC semi-final against Derry. The Clones clash, watched by 17,331 spectators, has been bossed by the Tir Chonaill men with Rory Kavanagh (0-02) and Ciaran Bonner (0-02) both particularly impressive.
Derry lived off three frees from Enda Muldoon before an injury-time point from play from defender Francis McEldowney.
