Cork U21s dismantle Deise in Munster final
Cork 4-14 Waterford 1-06
Another goal glut has helped Cork romp to their third successive Cadbury's Munster Under-21 football title at Páirc Uí Rinn tonight.
Tony Leahy's side hit 4-14 against Tipperary in the semi-final and ironically mustered the same tally in the decider against an overwhelmed Deise outfit.
It was the Rebel county's 19th provincial football success at the Under-21 grade.
An early goal from captain Paul Kerrigan, from a Fintan Gould set-up, helped Cork go 1-05 to 0-01 in front by the 15th-minute. The champions held firm for a 1-10 to 0-02 lead at the interval with Gould, Goulding and Roy Leahy chipping in with points.
Shane Lennon opened the scoring in the second half with a well-worked Waterford point and Deise hopes were raised when Patrick Hurney found the Cork net, six minutes in.
But Cork rallied, showing the strength that saw them past Kerry after a quarter-final replay, to hit three telling goals in the space of ten minutes.
Roy Leahy and Goulding first found a way past Waterford stopper Patrick Walsh. Ballincollig forward Brian Cotter, lining out at centre forward in place of injured senior star John Hayes (hand), then watched his point attempt drift in under the crossbar for Cork's fourth major.
Victory was assured for Leahy's charges and they advance to meet Leinster champions Laois in an enticing All-Ireland semi-final.
