'One game at a time' for McEneaney and Louth

Eamonn McEneaney will be taking it "one game at a time" when his five-year tenure as Louth football manager begins in earnest with next month's O'Byrne Cup.

The Wee county cut the ribbon on the 2006 season on Sunday, January 8, when they take on DIT in the O'Byrne Cup in Drogheda. Following two trial games and a challenge match against Meath, Monaghan man McEneaney is taking a positive approach.

He told the Drogheda Independent: "I have to say we have been delighted with the response (during the trials process). The players have turned out to a man and anyone who hasn't been available has called to let us know.

"We probably won't nail down a squad until after the second O'Byrne Cup match. In the meantime we will bring more lads in and have a look at them. The door is still very much open and we are keeping an open mind."

McEneaney is also in charge of the Louth Under-21 footballers, whose Leinster U-21 championship opener against Wicklow on February 19 is fast approaching.

With his seniors handed four home draws for their fortcoming National League Division 2B run, he added: "We'll be taking it one game at a time, but Cavan is a difficult assignment to start with. They are capable of beating anyone at home.

"There's no point in setting targets for the National League. We'll be trying our best in every game and we'll be using the league to try and better our performances before the championship. That's the aim."
