McEntee steps down as Meath selector
Meath manager Eamonn Barry is on the lookout for a new selector after the resignation of Andy McEntee was confirmed today.
The Meath County Board have issued a statement, announcing that: "Andy McEntee has stood down because of recent developments and all that has happened and because of work commitments.
"He’s unable to give it the time required."
The recent spat between Barry and the Meath County Board certainly played a part in Dunboyne clubman McEntee's decision to step down.
Appointed as a selector just over a month ago, McEntee was a constant supporter of Barry throughout the ordeal but failed to show up at either of the Royals' recent challenge games against Wicklow and Cavan.
His departure leaves manager Barry with two selectors - Benny Reddy, the senior team's coach and Under-21 manager, and former player Jody Devine.
Barry could opt to appoint a successor to McEntee with the Meath junior manager Dessie Hamilton of Boardsmill and Meath minor boss Dudley Farrell, who was recently named as Dunshaughlin's new manager, thought to be in the running.
