New gaelic football computer game launched

The All-Ireland football championship looks set to take over homes around the country again today as Sony Playstation’s Gaelic Games: Football went on sale.

Years in the making, the game captures all the moves unique to the sport from hand passes and solos to full commentary from radio legend Micheal O’Muircheartaigh.

Players can pick any county team including London and New York in their full colours, and they can play in any of 11 stadia from Croke to Casement and Semple Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

With the full backing of the GAA and Foras na Gaeilge, the game has an Irish language menu option and manual.

A team of 20 experts spent two years photographing stadiums, copying team kits and recording and replicating movements of players to bring the game to computer screens.

Croke Park and Fitzgerald Stadium, two of the most complex stadiums to feature in the game, each took over 200 hours to re-create.

The game, offering National Football League, Provincial and All-Ireland Championships, is on sale today priced €63.
