Maughan set to be handed Roscommon job tonight

John Maughan is set to be formally appointed as the new manager of the Roscommon senior football team at a meeting of the county board this evening.

Maughan is reported to have agreed terms to re-enter the world of intercounty management after stepping down from his position with the Mayo footballers following their defeat to Kerry in last year’s Championship.

He has previously managed Fermanagh, and brought Clare to a Munster final victory in 1992, as well as guiding his native Mayo to three All Ireland finals.

He is expected to appoint two locally-based selectors over the next few days and to begin trials as soon as possible.
