Hurler Hiney's career in doubt
Dublin wing-back Stephen Hiney has admitted he only has a "slim chance" of ever playing hurling again.
The 22-year-old is hurtling towards an early retirement from the small-ball game due to an eye injury and subsequent surgery.
The Ballyboden St Enda's starlet, who lined out at full-back in the Dubs' All-Ireland SHC Relegation semi-final win over Laois in July, has had surgery to correct a detached retina in his left eye as well laser treatment on his right eye.
A former Dublin Under-21 footballer, Hiney said: "I intend getting some additional medical opinion, but while I am not ruling out playing again, it seems there is only a very slim chance."
Meanwhile, recently-appointed Dublin hurling manager Tommy Naughton begins his reign with a challenge match against Tipperary, who have former boss Babs Keating back at the helm, at the official opening of O'Toole's GAA club pitch and clubhouse on the Malahide Road on Sunday.
