Dublin defender Stephen O'Shaughnessy is to undergo a shoulder operation which will rule him out of the Leinster champions' National League campaign.

O'Shaughnessy sustained his second shoulder injury in the space of four months last weekend and doctors have advised surgery for the Lucan Sarsfields clubman.

The left corner-back, who made his championship debut in May and has been nominated for a 2005 All-Star award, felt his left shoulder 'pop out' during Saturday's trial match for the Leinster Interprovincial squad.

O'Shaughnessy first damaged his shoulder against Wexford on June 19, but returned to play in the Dubs' 0-14 to 0-13 Leinster SFC final win over Laois.

Meanwhile, Dublin manager Paul Caffrey will also be without the services of midfielder Declan O'Mahony for the league run. The Ballyboden St Enda's youngster is to undergo a shoulder operation as well.
