GAA: Admin error was cause of ticket controversy
The riddle of how 1,000 tickets for last Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final went missing has been solved. Apparently, it was caused by an administrative error.
According to the GAA, 1,000 tickets for last Sunday's game had been packaged in error as tickets for Sunday week's All-Ireland football final.
As a result, those tickets, mainly for the Upper and Lower Cusack Stands, plus a small section of the Upper Hogan Stand, were unsold.
In a press statement, the GAA said it deeply regretted that the mistake had occurred, and reiterated its apology to supporters and to the county boards of the participating counties.
Despite the mistake, the attendance of 81,136 was the largest at an All-Ireland hurling final since 1956.
