Earley entry into Hall of Fame
Legendary Roscommon footballer Dermot Earley has been inducted into the MBNA Kick Fada Hall of Fame.
Two-time All-star Earley is the third recepient of the MBNA honour. 1950s star Peter Nolan, who lined out for Offaly, Leinster and New York in his career, and 1970s Kerry great Donie O'Sullivan were inducted in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
Midfielder Earley, the first player from his county to play inter-county championship games at minor, Under-21 and senior level in the same year (1966), won an All-Ireland U-21 medal, five Connacht senior medals, and a National League medal in a lengthy career.
He also won a Railway Cup medal with Connacht at the age of 18. Earley's son, Dermot junior, is a current member of the Kildare panel.
Earley's managerial career saw him take charge of his native Roscommon before later managing Kildare, where he lives.
Commenting on the award, MBNA Ireland's Head of Business Development Ciara Kennedy said:
"Dermot Earley is a very worthy addition to the MBNA Kick Fada Hall of Fame and we're delighted to add another accolade to his long list of honours."
The 2005 MBNA Kick Fada All Ireland Final will take place on September 17 at Bray Emmetts' new club grounds at Old Conna Avenue, Bray, Co Wicklow.
