Cork not fazed by Munster final re-match

Cork are concentrating on themselves and not Kerry ahead of their All-Ireland football semi-final at the end of the month, according to coach Billy Morgan.

“We don’t care who we’re playing. I expected Kerry to beat Mayo and while it’s a chance to redress the Munster final result we’re going to focus solely on ourselves," he said.

“Clearly, it’s going to be a much tougher game, because at this stage of the championship there’s nothing easy,” he said.

Cork came from six points adrift at one stage in the first-half to fashion a 2-14 to 2-11 victory over Galway in a memorable quarter-final at Croke Park yesterday.

“A couple of years ago Cork wouldn’t have won a game like this and it’s all due to the players’ hard work and dedication in the past 12 months. We will be back training during the week, though a number of players are involved in club games at the weekend.

“Philip Clifford’s playing for Bantry Blues against Douglas and he needs as many big games as he can get, while Graham Canty will also be playing in that game.

“Brendan Jer O’Sullivan will be involved for Beara against Aghada, who will have Kieran O’Connor on duty.”

Morgan dismissed suggestions that Man of the Match Anthony Lynch would be switched from centre-back to mark Kerry danger-man Colin Cooper.

Gooch showed his pedigree once more, scoring a classic goal after only five minutes in their 2-15 to 0-18 victory over Mayo.

“Anthony plays all his club football there. He was absolutely superb, a very good defender and very hard to stop when he goes forward. Anthony has it all.”
