Hamstring woe for Derry's McFlynn

Derry are resigned to being without half back Paul McFlynn for the next two months of championship action.

McFlynn, who kicked an impressive first half point in yesterday's 0-13 to 0-9 third round qualifier win over Limerick, tore his hamstring in injury-time at Castlebar's McHale Park.

The Oak Leafers' medical staff expect the The Loup star to be sidelined for upwards of 6-8 weeks, meaning he will definitely miss Derry's next qualifier - due to finalised in Sunday's fourth round draw.

Enda Muldoon, whose own hamstring injury forced him to withdraw before the throw-in against the Shannonsiders, and Fergal Doherty (ankle ligament) should be both fit for Mickey Moran's side's next outing, scheduled for either July 30 or August 6.

McFlynn had only just recently return from back problems and missed a chunk of last summer's run to the All-Ireland semi-finals with knee and hip injuries.
