Cavan lead Meath at the break

Meath 0-4 Cavan 1-4

A 22nd-minute goal from skipper Jason O'Reilly has helped Cavan to a half-time lead in their third round qualifier with Meath in Clones.

A crowd of 18,143 have paid in to see the first meeting between the neighbours in the championship since 1952. The Breffni men established a 0-3 to 0-1 lead before a long, searching ball from midfielder Dermot McCabe found O'Reilly and he turned to bulge the Meath net.

Sean Boylan's Meath hit eight wides inside the opening half-hour, but closed out the half in heartening form with two points from Peadar Byrne and Graham Geraghty.

Cavan's Finbarr O'Reilly clipped over an injury-time free to leave a goal between the sides at the interval.

In today's other early qualifier, Sligo have established a 0-6 to 0-5 lead over Clare, after 25 minutes' play in Castlebar.
