Roe exits after Wexford qualifier woe
The Wexford county board are on the lookout for a new manager after Pat Roe resigned in the aftermath of Saturday's SFC qualifier loss to Monaghan.
The former Laois footballer, who previously managed Carlow, had a productive year and a half with the Model men - steering them to two Leinster SFC semi-finals and last spring's National League final.
Crucially, silverware was not forthcoming and having taken to the helm in November 2003, Roe announced that he would be stepping down after Wexford's Clones exit.
"I have a lot of things going on in my life at the moment and I had to make a decision. I have given this a lot of thought but I feel now is the time," admitted Roe.
"Wexford are now through to the Tommy Murphy Cup and I hope that the players give that competition their full commitment."
Hungry Wexford supporters are still without a Leinster title since 1945 - many thought this was their year with a fine crop of young players being built around All-star forward Matty Forde.
Tommy Murphy Cup glory could mop up some of this summer's disappointment but with the Slaneysiders' Cup quarter-final scheduled for Saturday, July 30, the search for Roe's successor is not seen as an immediate priority.
