Anger at GPA energy drink promotion

The GAA and RTÉ have both reacted with anger to the news that the GPA has told its members they can earn €500 if they are seen drinking a bottle of Club Energise during post-match television interviews.

The GPA texted several players last weekend advising them: "If RTE try to stop you drinking (Club Energise), we advise you should refuse to do the interview."

Armagh attacker Ronan Clarke was seen swigging from a Club Energise bottle as he was interviewed following his side's Ulster SFC victory over Fermanagh.

GPA boss Dessie Farrell said this was not a new way of players getting income.

But talks are continuing between the GPA and RTÉ, who see it as product placement.
