Galway hold off Rebels to reach U21 final
Cork 1-11 Galway 0-17
Deadly duo Sean Armstrong and Michael Meehan hit fifteen points between them as Connacht champions Galway won through to next weekend's All-Ireland Under-21 football final in Limerick.
The Tribesmen won through to their first decider at this level in three seasons as Armstrong (0-07) and Meehan (0-08) kicked the crucial score.
The young Rebels fought back manfully - Daniel Goulding clipped over a 52nd-minute point to level things up at 1-10 apiece.
Goulding notched a handsome tally of 1-4 in all but Armstrong's late burst of three consecutive points pushed Galway to victory.
Meehan's bounty of four points in the first four minutes sent Peter Forde's men to a 0-11 to 1-04 half-time lead.
0-08 to no score in arrears, Goulding led the Cork fight-back - banging a 14th-minute volleyed goal to the Galway net and proving to be a menace up front.
Goulding and John Hayes combined to kick six points between them for Cork on the restart but Galway were simply too good.
