Wexford leading Tyrone, many games postponed
Wexford - in their first NFL Division One semi-final for over fifty years - are leading 2003 league champions Tyrone 1-04 to 1-03 at the break in Portlaoise.
AllStar Mattie Forde has predictably provided the brunt of the Model county's scores. He has accounted for a goal and three points (3f), with John Hegarty's injury-time point being Wexford's other score.
Tyrone, who are playing against the wind, began well when an Enda McGinley point attempt dropped short for Martin Penrose to tap home to the Wexford net on six minutes.
Forde replied with a free for Wexford before goaling himself.
A 20-metre left-footed Penrose point levelled the tie up at 1-03 apiece on 32 minutes but Hegarty's late white flag sees Pat Roe's side in front.
Elsewhere, the poor weather conditions countrywide have meant postponements in this afternoon's NFL and NHL ties.
The other NFL Division One semi-final between Armagh and Mayo was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch at Hyde Park. Laois referee Maurice Deegan made the decision to call it off after incessent rain in Roscommon.
The Division Two semi-finals have also been wiped out due to the weather. The Clones clashes between Meath and Fermanagh, and Monaghan and Derry were postponed by Tyrone official Michael Hughes.
The NHL meeting between neighbours Meath and Westmeath will now be played on Tuesday evening in Mullingar due to a waterlogged pitch.
The NHL Division Two relegation tie between Roscommon and Sligo in Athleague has also been postponed.
