Two-goal Nigel Higgins helped Wexford to success over Limerick at Wexford Park - moving the Model men four points clear of today's fourth-placed visitors in the Division 1B standings.

The lively Higgins hit two points inside the first three minutes to set Wexford up for a solid afternoon's work.

He notched his first goal after 12 minutes for a 1-02 to 0-04 buffer - with Limerick relying on Paul O'Grady and Ollie Moran points.

The Shannonsiders began to pull clear however and with Pat Tobin and Donie Ryan finding their range - the visitors were 0-12 to 1-05 in front at the break and on course for new boss Joe McKenna's second straight win.

Wexford goals on 47 and 48 minutes from Willie Dillon and Higgins put pay to that as the home side stole into a 3-08 to 0-13 lead, with Mitch Jordan and Michael Jacob adding points.

Limerick outscored their hosts by four points to two in the closing ten minutes but crucially saw Wexford net minder Damien Fitzhenry save a goal-bound Niall Moran shot on 68 minutes.
