Mayo team set for more training abroad

John Maughan has confirmed that he will again take his Mayo charges abroad for an intensive training camp ahead of the westerners' defence of their Connacht football title.

Mayo played New York in the Big Apple last year in the first round of the championship, and Maughan combined the trip with a week's training in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York.

Mayo went on to collect their first Connacht title in five years, and advanced to the All-Ireland final, where Kerry scored a facile win.

Maughan has confirmed he will take his squad away once again, but dates and venues have yet to be decided.

He said: "Some teams head off much earlier but I feel you get more out of a training camp in terms of momentum if it's closer to the championship."
