Rebels overcome Mayo
Cork 2-9 Mayo 0-10
Billy Morgan's Cork finally kick-started their NFL campaign with this convincing win over table toppers Mayo at Pairc Ui Rinn.
A man-of-the match performance from Micheál Ó Croinín, coupled with two second half goals for the Rebels, ensured it was a comfortable win in the end.
Ó Croinín opened the scoring from a free in the first minute and added three more in the first half, with Cork's other points coming from Conor Brosnan and Michael O'Sullivan.
Mayo were always in touch though, and trailed 0-6 to 0-5 at the break as Austin O'Malley (3) and Trevor Mortimer (2) were on target.
Mayo levelled early in the second half but it was always about Cork after that.
Ó Croinín hit two more points before a Colin Crowley point attempt dropped fortuitously behind Mayo keeper John Healy and into the goal.
Mayo tried to rally but substitute Colin Corkery's injury time goal ensured the visitors winning run came to an end.
