Armagh hero Steven McDonnell believes the sending off of Donegal full-back Ray Sweeney was the turning point in Armagh's favour during Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final.

Sweeney, brother of county skipper Adrian, was sent off after 39 minutes and McDonnell netted soon after to set Armagh on their way to another historic win.

McDonnell said: "Any time a man is sent off is a turning point. It did have an effect on the game, but we went into the second-half with our backs against the wall.

"That always seems to be the way with us but the extra man certainly helped."
