Dublin hurling boss quits post

Dublin senior hurling manager Kevin Fennelly has resigned, ending a two-year stint with the county.

Fennelly tendered his resignation to the county board and had been thought to be considering his options since Dublin's loss to Clare in the All-Ireland qualifying series.

However, there had been speculation that Fennelly wanted to stay on, but that an anticipated meeting to discuss his future was never scheduled.

"I'd like to find out if my services are still required by Dublin," he said earlier in the week, "but I feel more concerned for the players and selectors.

"Over the past 10 days I've had six players on the phone enquiring about the start of training for the league.

"But I can't give them any news because the situation is still not clarified. The players deserve better treatment than that."

The Dublin county board will start the search for a successor immediately, and are to shortly advertise for a full-time director for developing hurling in the county.
