Kilkenny 1-20 Tipperary 1-16 - match report
Kilkenny 1-20 Tipperary 1-16
Kilkenny are through to their fourth All-Ireland in five years as they disposed of reigning champions Tipperary in style at Croke Park.
The return of DJ Carey yielded dividends as the Young Ireland star scored four points and set up substitute Jimmy Coogan's second half goal.
The sides were tied at 0-10 apiece at the break after a first half in which freetakers Henry Shefflin and brothers Eoin and Paul Kelly were prominenet.
Kilkennny went three ahead on the resumption and Tipperary's first score of the second half was in the form of a John Carroll goal, tapped in in the 12th minute to tie the sides at 0-13 to 1-10.
Tipp led briefly before a goal and a point in two minutes by Jimmy Coogan lifted the Cats and they were not to relinquish their lead for the remainder of the game.
Fittingly, DJ Carey scored the last point of the game to put distance between the sides and lead the Cats to safety, a win and an All-Ireland final.
