Dublin triumph over Donegal in quarter final replay
Dublin has joined Cork and Kerry in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Football Championship.
The Dubs hammered Donegal by 1-14 to 0-7 at the replay in Croke Park yesterday and will face either Sligo or Armagh in the last four awaiting.
Tommy Lyons, who had to sit out the original meeting between the pair due to chest pains, said he is delighted with how his side played.
"We played the game and we are waiting now for our man Sligo and we are going down tomorrow to have a look at it and please God we will see how it goes," he said.
Peadar Andrews, who played a major role in the Dublin defence, said that it was the team’s focussed approach that won them the game.
"We’ve been in replays before and it hasn't gone our way. This time we adopted a different approach, a more focussed approach and on the day we just upped our work rate, upped our performance. We did have the bounce of the ball in some sectors and the scores did come our way and Donegal struggled," he said.
Meanwhile, Donegal manager, Mickey Moran, discounted rumours of his resignation following his side's ten-point defeat at the hands of Dublin. Moran said the Ulster champions were outclassed by the Dubs.
"Dublin were just up for it and by far the better team mentally than us and worked very hard. They stopped us coming out with the ball, won midfield exchanges and we were just living in scraps," he said.
