GAA: Welcome for GAA's anti-doping measures

The secretary of the Tipperary GAA board Michael O'Brien has welcomed the initiation of the anti-doping measures, which were introduced on All-Ireland Final hurling day for the first time.

However, he has warned that GAA players can now be tested at any time of the year, even at home in the close season.

"It now means that doctors and players have to be thinking all the time and we have been making them aware of that," he said.

"We welcome the whole dope testing element to the game. It will take some getting used to but it is a welcome development."

Tipperary's Eugene O'Neill and Noel Morris were tested immediately after the final whistle as the GAA historically came in line with the Olympic Council's recommendations. Both came through with flying colours but players have been warned - too much coffee or Red Bull - can render a player over the limit and out of bounds.
