Hurling: McCarthy takes over at Waterford
Waterford have a new hurling manager this morning - Justin McCarthy.
The former Cork hurler who managed Cashel King Cormacs to All-Ireland club
glory a decade ago has been best known over the past few years as a pundit
for the Examiner.
He takes the reins from fellow Corkonian Gerald McCarthy, who stepped down
in the aftermath of the Deise's Munster Semi-Final defeat at the hands of
Limerick in June.
It had been his fifth season in charge.
The new bainisteoir's selectors will be Tipperary All-Star Colm Bonnar -
who has been long associated with Waterford hurling since transferring his
club allegiances to Dunhill in 1996 - and Seamie Hannon of Ballyduff Upper,
the county's westernmost club.
McCarthy has signed a two-year deal.
