GAA: English says Tipperary wants to make up for last year

Tipperary senior hurling manager, Nicky English, has stated ahead of Sunday's Guinness Munster's hurling final, that it is time for his charges to make amends for last year's defeat at the hands of Cork.

The Tipperary maestro described the 2000 Munster final as being more like a carnival and said that his young guns allowed themselves to be caught up in the hype of the occasion.

"We allowed ourselves to be caught up in the hype of the Munster final last year. I suppose it was the first Tipp vs. Cork final since 1991and there was a huge expectation about it.

"It was more like a rock concert than a Munster final and our supporters were relatively calm after losing. I never came across a situation where Tipperary supporters were calm after losing a Munster final - they still felt we would win the All-Ireland final.

"You don't often get a chance in life to correct mistakes and our lads are fortunate that they have a chance to do it so soon," he said.

Nicky added that Sunday's game is more important to Tipperary than people realise.

"We need a championship trophy and this is the time to win one. In that sense, the game with Limerick will be a massive one for Tipperary.

"A place in the All-Ireland quarter-final won't be much consolation if we do not win the Munster final," he said.
