GAA: Wexford manager hits out

Wexford Senior Football Manager Ger Halligan feels that football in the county was once again pushed to one side in the debacle which led to the postponement of their Allianz National League game with Carlow.

Gorey was to house a double header on Sunday last to also include the Wexford-Derry Allianz National Hurling League game but once the pitch was declared unplayable Halligan feels that no effort was made to have a pitch made available for the footballers.

Enniscorthy had been on stand-by for the footballers in the event of bad weather, but a decision was instead taken to utilise the venue for the hurling game.

“No effort was made to get a pitch anywhere else in the county for our game and that’s very hard to accept”, said Halligan. “Micheal Furlong another selector could have secured his own clubs pitch but the decision was taken to call the football off before he had a chance”.

Halligan and Furlong along with third selector, Dec Carty met with County Board Chairman, Sheamus Howlin, and Secretary, Michael Kinsella, to voice their displeasure at the sequence of events.
