Three moments that mattered as Dublin win All-Ireland semi-final
Kelly saves Kerry early on
Éamon Fitzmaurice couldn’t fault his team’s effort in the opening quarter but their execution was another matter and it left them gasping for air. Dublin rattled off the first four points and could have had a goal to boot had Brian Kelly not produced a superb save low to his right after Philly McMahon burst through and targeted the Kerry net. It allowed Kerry to breathe and set the foundation for the epic to come.
Kerry put the squeeze on Dublin
Two banks of six Kerrymen hemmed Stephen Cluxton in as he stood over his kick-out half an hour in and the result was an opening goal and a general panic in the ranks of the All-Ireland champions. Kerry struck for another 1-2 in the next five minutes before the bell rang and Dublin could finally roll off the ropes. Game on.
Kevin McManamon connects with Peter Crowley
There was just one point between them with a minute of injury-time to go when Kevin McManamon thundered into the advancing Peter Crowley. Referee David Gough never batted an eyelid and the end result was one last point claimed by Diarmuid Connolly that delivered Dublin into a fourth All-Ireland final in six years.
