Éamonn Fitzmaurice won’t tear up script, says Tomás Ó Sé
Agreeing with the suggestion his brother Marc is ideal to take on a sweeper’s role, Ó Sé expects his old team-mate will make changes, though not wholesale, ahead of Sunday’s Munster semi-final against Clare.
“I’ve no doubt they’ve tried that (at training) and Aidan O’Mahony is playing well.
You can drop 15 fellas back but it’s what they do.
“Marc has the footballing brain but you need patience and the longer this goes on, and they’re coming into championship, the less patience there’s going to be and less chances that are going to be given. So if he doesn’t perform in one or two games...
“I don’t think you’ll see a huge dissection of the Kerry team. They won’t change it up that much, but they will have to tweak.
“If you have Marc inside and the amount of ball coming in on (Bernard) Brogan, he’s a sitting duck.
“Marc had a poor league final but if he was playing for the Dubs he would have had an outstanding game. That’s the way it is.”
Ó Sé hadn’t spoken with Marc for a number of weeks after his hard-hitting column following the Dublin match.
As a Kerry supporter, he took encouragement from that.
“It would be worse if they were cracking jokes and laughing about it because it’s not a laughing matter. That’s how serious they take it.
“Fitzmaurice is the right man to take stock of what he has.”
