Final day Hurling League permutations for all six divisions

John Fogarty breaks down the weekend’s Allianz Hurling League permutations.
Final day Hurling League permutations for all six divisions

Division 1A:

Waterford qualified for the quarter-finals prior to last weekend and they’ve since been joined by Kilkenny and Dublin who are also on six points. It means the Kilkenny-Dublin game is a dead rubber as it is for Waterford who host Galway (3 points). If Tipperary (3) beat Cork and Galway take Waterford, the head-to-head differentiation is inconsequential as they drew last weekend. Score difference would then come into play and the likelihood is Tipperary’s margin over Galway (13) will see them avoid a relegation play-off against bottom of the table Cork and secure a quarter-final against Clare or Limerick.

Division 1B:

Clare know they will make an instant return to Division 1A if — and only if — they beat Limerick in Ennis as the visitors’ score difference is better. Both have already sealed quarter-final places and will likely by joined by Offaly who surprised Wexford last Sunday. Wexford must beat Laois to avoid the embarrassment of a relegation play-off. Kerry must hope for a combination of results to escape a relegation play-off - a win away to Offaly and a victory for Laois against Wexford. The losers of the relegation play-off face the top team in Division 2A in a promotion/relegation game.

Division 2A:

Westmeath are into the final and will be joined by Carlow or London.

Carlow need to beat Westmeath to assure their spot. A defeat or even a draw could see London overhauling them. Derry and Kildare face off but will do so again in a relegation play-off, the losers facing the Division 2B winners in a promotion/relegation clash.

Division 2B:

Down (6 points) Armagh (6), Mayo (6) and Meath (4) can all make the final. Meath entertain Down while Armagh welcome Mayo to the Athletic Grounds. Like Division 2A, the bottom two — Wicklow and Donegal — face each other as they will again in a relegation play-off.

Division 3A:

Roscommon are four points clear and into the final. Tyrone have a chance of joining Roscommon if they beat them. Fingal, Monaghan and Louth are, like Tyrone, all on four points and stand a chance of making the final. However, one of them will also fall into a relegation play-off against Warwickshire.

Division 3B:

The winners of the Leitrim-Fermanagh and Sligo-Longford matches will make the final.
