In-form Tomás Corrigan keen to learn from new Dublin clubmates
The 25-year-old has transferred from Kinawley to St Oliver Plunketts in the capital where retired Dublin star Alan Brogan is club captain.
Corrigan, who has carried last summer’s superb form into Fermanagh’s Division 2 campaign, kicking 1-11 against Laois on Sunday, is impressed by Brogan’s commitment.
“His dedication to his training is the main thing,” he said.
“He’s always there to improve and work, he’s not there to mess about or chat and have a good time.
“That’s when you make improvements, when you’re focused and constantly striving to improve and you can only learn from someone like that.
“Alan is really driving the whole thing on because he’s not with Dublin.
“I’m looking forward to playing games with all the lads because I’ve only trained with them so far. Dublin club football is probably similar enough standard (to inter-county) and the training is top quality.”
Corrigan was influential in Fermanagh reaching the All-Ireland quarter-final last summer, where they lost to Dublin.
He has picked up where he left off and has starred in the Erne county’s league campaign. “Just being able to do a pre-season injury-free was important, because I was always picking up wee niggles,” said Corrigan.
“I figured out that all the driving was causing me problems, so I’ve made a few adjustments and I’m reaping the benefits of that.
“But it’s not just me — the whole panel has stepped up and rose to the challenge of Division 2.
“People said our main goal should be to consolidate, but we’re aiming for promotion.”
Fermanagh have won two out of four games and would be close to securing Division 2 status with a win over rivals Cavan in Brewster Park on Saturday.
Corrigan and his brother Ruairi will come up against their first cousin, Cavan midfielder Gearóid McKiernan, who scored 1-5 in their win over Armagh last week.
“There’s a lot of elements to the derby game, none more so than playing against Gearóid, so bragging rights will be given out for the next 12 months.
“Gearóid is a great player, you might call him a complete player. He’s big, strong, can shift through the middle, and can kick off both feet so we’ll need to give him extra attention on Saturday.
“Whoever wins will be right in the race for promotion, so it’s a massive two points at stake. It will be a spicy game I’m sure.”
