Wexford boss David Power accuses Antrim of ‘thuggery’

The hosts secured a 1-8 to 0-7 win to remain unbeaten in the Division Four but Power questioned the Ulster county’s tactics.

He blasted: “Antrim’s physicality took the game to another extreme. There was a stamping incident, punch in the face, and clothes line offence. I’m not making excuses, but this is not football, it’s thuggery.”

Referee John Gilmartin flashed six yellow cards, four to Antrim players during the game.

Last week Carlow boss Turlough O’Brien claimed Antrim’s had “targeted” Paul Broderick, who was forced off the field before half time. “He was targeted, no question,” said O’Brien.

Antrim boss Frankie Fitzsimons last night said Power’s comments “does not even warrant a response”.
