Former Kerry star Declan O’Sullivan forced to retire after knee op

The five-time All-Ireland medal winner announced his retirement from the inter-county scene last year.

However, he continued to play his part at club level with Dromid Pearses.

After his latest knee operation yesterday morning in the Santry Sports Clinic, the 31-year-old tweeted that his time inside the whitewash was at an end.

“After my operation this morning sadly my football journey is over. Thank you Dromid Pearses, South Kerry and Kerry, it’s been an honour.

“A big thank you to Dr Ray Moran & staff of Santry Sports Clinic for the wonderful care this morning. Another knee op completed.”

O’Sullivan’s struggle with knee injuries has been well documented.

He required a pair of crutches to depart Fitzgerald Stadium in recent weeks after his knee gave way in extra-time of the recent replayed Kerry county final between South Kerry and Legion.
