Boston brawl may face GAA review

Sunday’s Super 11s brawl in Boston could be reviewed by the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC).

Director general Páraic Duffy confirmed the match in Boston Red Sox’ Fenway Park home was an “official game” that comes under the auspices of the organisation’s games governing body.

Duffy, who has no involvement with the CCCC, said: “It was a game for which permission was sought and it was sanctioned by the CCCC. Like International Rules, it has its own set of rules.” As per Super 11s rules, a player issued with a yellow card is dismissed from the field for a two-minute cooling off period in the sin bin. Arising from the melee, referee Alan Kelly issued a yellow card to Dublin goalkeeper Conor Dooley and Galway captain Andy Smith.

Galway’s Aidan Harte played down the flashpoint: “That happens in a game. It just shows how much the two teams were trying to win,” the defender told Boston’s New England Sports Network. “We could have laughed it off but we didn’t it. Lads tear into each other in the heat of battle but we forget about it.”

Meanwhile Setanta Sports have confirmed their fixtures list for next season’s Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues.

The broadcaster has exclusive rights to Saturday night games and their season throws in on January 30th with a repeat of the All-Ireland SFC final between Kerry and Dublin.

Setanta will also cover six Hurling League fixtures.

The 2016 Setanta Allianz League schedule is as follows:

January 30 :

Dublin v Kerry (Football), 7pm; Down v Donegal (Football), 7pm.

February 6 :

Mayo v Dublin (Football), 7pm; Armagh v Laois (Football), 7pm.

February 13:

Tipperary v Dublin (Hurling), 7pm; Limerick v Wexford (Hurling), 7pm.

February 20:

Cork v Waterford (Hurling), 7pm; Dublin v Galway (Hurling), 7pm.

February 27:

Dublin v Monaghan (Football), 7pm; Armagh v Fermanagh (Football), 7pm.
