Busy John Brudair managing two different teams playing different venues tomorrow
Aside from his duties as Limerick senior football manager this year, Brudair has also been overseeing the exploits of the Milford camogie team and the junior hurlers of his native Dromcollogher/Broadford. Both teams are involved in provincial action tomorrow and but for a change in throw-in times, he’d have been left in the unenviable position of having to choose which sideline he patrolled.
The Milford camogie team face Newmarket-on-Fergus of Clare in the Munster final at 1pm in Kilmallock, with Dromcollogher-Broadford entertaining Cork champions Dungourney at 2.30pm.
The camogie decider was initially scheduled for 1.30pm, with the hurling clash fixed for 2pm.
And while both throw-in times have been changed to accommodate Brudair, the 26km separating the two venues means he’s unlikely to be present from the off at Dromcollogher.
“Maybe if JP McManus gives me the lend of his plane I might be able to make the start of the hurling match,” laughs Brudair.
“It is not ideal and we were hoping one of the games might be moved to the Sunday, but that wasn’t possible for one reason or another. There has been some give and take which will allow me to make a fair chunk of the hurling match.
“Ray Lynch is player/ manager with Dromcollogher and we have been trying to take the pressure off him as much as possible throughout the year to allow him concentrate on his hurling.
He, along with Jerry O’Brien who coincidentally enough is from Milford, will take charge of getting the team ready beforehand and you just have to trust that all the work has been put in.
“It’s a big game at home for the club and it would be ideal to be there from the start, but you have to take the hand you are dealt. It’ll be a mad dash once the camogie is finished.”
