Brophy is coming to the end of his first season in Australia, having signed a two-year contract with West Coast Eagles.
The Eagles have enjoyed a spectacular season and will challenge three-in-a-row chasers Hawthorn in the season’s climax at the MCG tomorrow morning Irish time.
Brophy is a long way from making the senior squad, despite making good progress in his initial campaign.
He will be out on the ‘G’ however, taking part in the Grand Final Sprint, an established element of the pre-game build-up and half-time entertainment.
The Celbridge man will run in the first of two 10-man heats that will take place before the opening bounce of the big game, while the final will take place during the interval.
Luminaries of Aussie rules football such as Patrick Dangerfield, Jared Crouch and Brendan Fevola are former winners of the unofficial title ‘Fastest Man in the AFL’ and as someone who clocked 2.93 over 20m in last year’s Draft Combine, Brophy has a chance.
