Mayo goalkeeper David Clarke recovers to face Dublin

Goalkeeper David Clarke has been passed for it for Mayo’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final with Chris Barrett replacing the injured Tom Cunniffe in the Connacht champions’ only change.

Barrett came on as a first-half substitute for Cunniffe in the quarter-final win over Donegal after Cunniffe sustained a hamstring injury, and the Belmullet man takes over at centre-back. Clarke was forced to withdraw at half-time in the same game with a groin problem, to be replaced by Robert Hennelly, but the Ballina netminder has been deemed fit enough to retain the number 1 jersey.

The rest of the side remains unchanged. Barry Moran was a late replacement for his namesake Andy before the Donegal game, in which he operated as a sweeper, and he is selected, ostensibly at right corner-forward, but could drop deep again. Aidan O’Shea is once again picked at centre-forward but is likely to operate closer to goal.

While Mayo lost the 2013 All-Ireland final to Dublin, the westerners had been successful in the previous year’s semi-final meeting between the counties. They also triumphed at the same stage in 2006, but those two encounters are their only championship victories against the Metropolitans. Dublin have six wins from the 10 clashes before this year, with two draws, in 1955 and ’85.
