Cassidy backs Fermanagh to bounce back
Monaghan clocked up a 1-20 to 0-13 win over the 14-men Erne County in the Ulster SFC semi-final clash last weekend. Cassidy believes the squad can regroup for the qualifiers before they face Antrim at Brewster Park on Sunday July 5.
“Our season is far from over and we are going to give the backdoor a good rattle,” he told the Impartial Reporter.
“Last year we run Laois close in the Qualifiers but that is not good enough. We are going to go back to training and work hard over the next couple of weeks and get ready for Antrim. This year we are not going into the Qualifiers just to take part, we want a run in the backdoor and to start the season off again.”
“Us losing to Monaghan and Antrim beating Laois will give them a lot of confidence going into the game, tides have turned a bit from the last time we played each other and we know it will take a big performance to win.
“Monaghan are a great side, they are in the top six if not four in the country and will be pushing for an All Ireland semi-final at least so we have to take heart from that. We’re determined that this will not be the end of the season for us and we’ll be back at training this week to get ready for the backdoor.”
