Seamus Callanan’s late free salvages draw for Drom Inch
The match ended all square, after county star Seamus Callanan converted a controversial free deep in injury time to level for Drom-Inch on a 0-18 each scoreline after a lively encounter that could have gone either way.
Sarsfields were without injured county players Padraic Maher, Michael Cahill and Denis Maher, with regulars Stephen Cahill and Billy McCarthy also missing, so for them the result was more welcome than for Drom, who, however, deserved their share of the spoils.
Aided by the breeze, Sarsfields made the early running with Aidan McCormack (0-6) and Pa Bourke (0-3) their main marksmen as they built an interval lead of 0-10 to 0-8. Seamie Callanan (0-3) led the way for Drom for whom David Butler, and Michael Everard (0-2), looked dangerous.
Drom did better after the break, but did not hit the front until Seamus Callanan pointed a ‘sixty five ’65’four minutes from time.
In a hectic finish, Aidan McCormack levelled for Sarsfields, Johnny Ryan nudged Drom ahead again, but two McCormack points had Sarsfields in front well into injury time.
However with almost the last puck of the game, Seamus Callanan levelled from a hotly-disputed free.
Upperchurch-Drombane had to survive a late Holycross-Ballycahill rally for a 0-16 to 0-14 win at The Ragg. Church led 0-11 to 0-4 at half-time and were still five points clear after 55 minutes, but Holycross staged a late comeback, with points from Robbie Stakelum (2), Padraig Russell and Luke O Meara bringing them within two of their rivals, for whom Paul Ryan’s nine points were a key factor. Andy Kinane, John Ryan (J), Colm Stapleton and the Shortt brothers were the Upperchurch mainstays, while Jack Skehan, Kieran O Dwyer, Liam Dwan, and Sean Nally, did best for Holycross.
Moycarkey-Borris were easy 2-21 to 0-11 winners over Boherlahan-Dualla in their clash. Moycarkey had ten points on the board before Boherlahan opened their account. A Ciaran Morris goal four minutes from the break helped them to an interval lead of 1-14 to 0-3.
Brian Moran had Moycarkey’s second goal late on. Ciaran Morris, Rory Ryan, Mossie Bracken and Pat Molloy were key men for Moycarkey, while Darragh Devane, Brian Maher, and Kieran O Sullivan did well for Boherlahan.
In the West division, a hotly-fancied Éire Óg Anacarty had to work hard for their 1-14 to 1-11 win over Knockavilla Kickhams.
Davy Butler’s goal brought Kickhams right into contention after they looked to be drifting, but two points by Ronan O Brien near the finish ensured that Éire Óg prevailed. Dinny Crosse got the Éire Óg goal.
Up north, Templederry claimed the bragging rights over their neighbours Borrisoleigh after a 0-19 to 1-14 win in a close encounter , and Kildangan continued their recent run of good form with a 2-21 to 1-15 victory over Roscrea.
Kilruane MacDonaghs also maintained their winning run with a comprehensive 1-20 to 1-12 win over Burgess. Silvermines were too strong for Ballina, winning 4-20 to 0-12, and Portroe got the better of Moneygall on a 1-12 to 0-10 scoreline.
