Austin Stack Park to host Cork and Kerry minors in Munster semi-final

The Electric Ireland Munster MFC semi-final between Kerry and Cork will take place in Austin Stack Park, Tralee after the Munster Council moved to clarify confusion around the venue for the last-four tie.

Following wins for Cork against Limerick and Kerry over Waterford last Wednesday, the provincial website indicated that the sides would meet in Páirc Uí Rinn.

While the counties met in last year’s final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, it was believed that this fell outside of the home-and-away arrangement, as the minor game is tied to the senior decider.

Following discussions, however, it has now been established that the game did count towards the arrangement and so Kerry were deemed to be the hosts on this occasion.

The game will take place on Wednesday, May 13, starting at 7.30pm.

“It was always our understanding that the game would be held at a Kerry venue, probably Tralee,” Cork County Board PRO Edmond Forrest said last night.

“Our arrangement with Kerry at all levels is to switch home advantage for every second game, regardless of what round it might be, there’s no special provision made for finals.

“We’re happy that that remains the case and we’ll look forward to travelling to Tralee in three weeks’ time.”

Interestingly, in 2004 Kerry and Cork met in the minor final in Limerick as a curtain-raiser to the senior final between Limerick and Kerry.

When that game was drawn, the replay was held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, as it was Cork’s turn to host, with the last match before the drawn game having been held in Kerry.
