Cian O’Sullivan wants Dublin to win in style
The back to back champions are just 70 minutes from a first ever three-in-a-row of titles for the county and will face Cork in the final on Sunday week.
Aside from their big win over Mayo, Dublin have yet to overly impress this season though and Sunday’s battling semi-final win over Monaghan summed up their campaign.
“It is great to get to another league final but, given the choice, you’d prefer to be getting better performances than scraping to victories in the league,” said O’Sullivan.
“And our performance wasn’t up to par on Sunday against Monaghan. So it’s a funny situation. On the one hand, you’re delighted to be in a league final but at the same time, you didn’t get the performance you were looking for. It’s a funny kind of experience in the dressing-room after.”
The versatile Kilmacud Crokes man insisted as long as things are settled for the Championship it will have been a successful spring. He put little stock in the prospect of three league titles on the trot.
“We wouldn’t set out at the start of the year and put a league title as our primary aim,” he said. “It’s more just a by-product of getting strong performances.
“I think in the last couple of years in the league, that’s what we focused on and a league title has been the result. That’s not saying it’s not a fantastic achievement, it is. And to get the three-in-a-row would be great. But the primary focus is on performance and making sure the team is in good shape come the summer.”
