Joe Brolly on hand to answer Kieran Donaghy jibe
Brolly was flown from Belfast yesterday lunch-time to attend the corporate launch held in Ballygarry House Hotel in aid of the All-Ireland club SFC semi-finalists’ pitch purchase and development on Nun’s Field.
Donaghy was on stage with compere Eoin McDevitt when Brolly came through the doors after the Kerry captain’s now famous post-final speech was replayed on close circuit TVs for the audience.
Donaghy joked Brolly was the one pundit he gave credence to but when the Derry man questioned his future it had an effect on him.
Brolly replied: “I’ll tell you something. It wasn’t me who left you on the bench for five or six games of the season.” Asked by McDevitt if he wanted to apologise to Donaghy, Brolly responded: “Are you serious? I got this man an All Star!”
Donaghy, who will along with Stacks face Slaughtneil in Portlaoise tomorrow fortnight, fired back: “We both didn’t do too bad out of it, Joe!”
Over 600 guests attended the event including Stacks and Kerry greats as well as Mick O’Dwyer, Tomás Ó Sé, Bomber Liston, Sean Walsh and former Cork stars Billy Morgan and Dinny Allen.
